SOCHI, February 15 (R-Sport) − In the wake of disappointing results at the Sochi Olympics, the US speedskating team is reverting to tried and tested skinsuits after a new design adopted specially for the Winter Games was deemed a failure.
"For the remainder of the Winter Olympic Games, team USA speedskaters will be wearing the previously approved Under Armour skinsuits used during recent world cup competition," the country's federation president Mike Plant said in a statement on Saturday.
The high-tech suits reportedly included ventilation holes to allow air to pass out behind the skater, but that feature also created an inadvertent drag effect, US media said.
"We are constantly evaluating all aspects of race preparation and execution to help our athletes improve their output and maximize their physical and psychological advantages," said Plant.
