SOCHI, February 16 (R-Sport) — Los Angeles Kings defenseman Drew Doughty scored twice to give Canada a 2-1 overtime win over Finland in the last match of the Olympic men's hockey preliminary round, sending both medal contenders through to the quarterfinals.

There, Canada will face the winner of the playoffs clash between Switzerland and Latvia, while for the Finns it's a date with Russia or Norway.

Doughty scored the winner midway through overtime at the Bolshoi Ice Dome, sending the puck right between the pads of goalie Tuukka Rask.

Earlier, he put Canada ahead in the first period, before Tuomo Ruutu equalized in the second to celebrate his 31st birthday.

Sweden and the United States are the two other teams to have qualified directly for the quarterfinals.

In the other playoffs scheduled for Tuesday, the Czech Republic plays against Slovakia, while Slovenia takes on Austria.

The quarterfinals will be held on Wednesday.
