ESTO-SADOK, Russia, February 18 (R-Sport) – Germany soared above the rest to take team ski jump gold at the Sochi Olympics on Monday, narrowly defeating a strong Austrian team.
The German squad of Andreas Wank, Marinus Kraus, Andreas Wellinger and Severin Freund combined for a total score of 1,041.1 points, just 2.7 more than the Austrians.
Japan was third on 1,024.9, meaning a second medal in Sochi for 41-year-old veteran Noriaki Kasai, who is at a record seventh Winter Olympics.
Poland, whose team leader Kamil Stoch had been aiming for triple gold in Sochi, took fourth on 1,011.8.
