SOCHI, February 19 (R-Sport) – Shea Weber’s late goal saved Canada from potential embarrassment in a hard-fought 2-1 win over Latvia and set up an Olympic semifinal with the U.S. on Wednesday.
Lights-out goaltending from Kristers Gudlevskis kept Latvia in the game even as the small Baltic nation was outshot 57-16 by Canada’s NHL titans.
The Latvians were eventually beaten on 13:03 of the third period when Weber fired a slapshot from the point for the game-winning goal.
