SOCHI, February 23 (RIA Novosti) – Two-time 2014 Olympic champion Maxim Trankov will carry the Russian flag during the Sochi Winter Olympics closing ceremony on Sunday, the president of the Russian Olympic Committee said.
“It’s athletes who choose [the flag bearer]. Trankov is an amazing athlete,” Alexander Zhukov said.
The ceremony starts at 20:14 local time (16:14 GMT) at the Fisht Olympic Stadium.
The Russian pair skater and his partner Tatiana Volosozhar claimed the pairs gold, setting a world record for the short program. They also helped their country to win the inaugural team title.
