BARNAUL, February 24 (RIA Novosti) – Rescuers have recovered a fourth body from a shopping mall in Siberia that was hit over the weekend by an explosion presumed to have been caused by gas leak.
The fourth victim was a female store assistant at the Kalinka mall in the Altai territory, like the three women aged between 20 and 40 identified Sunday, an Investigative Committee spokesperson said Monday.
The spokesperson said a build-up of gas had been discovered in the ground, and that an inspection would be carried out at the scene in the near future.
The blast occurred early Sunday at the mall in the center of Biisk, a city of around 200,000 people. Investigators are still working to determine the precise cause of the explosion.
A case has been opened under a law penalizing negligence leading to the deaths of two or more people. The crime carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison.
