VLADIVOSTOK, February 26 (RIA Novosti) – A man in Russia’s Far East province of Primorye has been hauled into court on charges of kidnapping and eating a rare dog, local police said Wednesday.
Police said they began investigating after receiving a report on the disappearance of a wolf hybrid estimated to be worth 28,000 rubles ($780).
They later established that the suspected culprit was a 28-year old man from the Pacific port city of Nakhodka.
“It was established that he took advantage of the owner’s absence to kidnap the dog and later used it in his food,” the police said in a statement.
The man admitted culpability and faces up to two years in jail on charges of theft, police said.
