The Pancake Binge festival took place in the historic center of Nizhny Novgorod. It included contests in speed pancake-making and speed eating of this traditional dish. The festivities ended with a traditional burning of the winter scarecrow.
The crowd on the square was entertained by jolly minstrels, giant stilt walkers, Russian bogatyrs, or knights, and craftsmen.
