Ukraine’s state nuclear regulator on Thursday cancelled its own decree halting the transit of nuclear fuel via the country’s territory.

MOSCOW, March 6 (RIA Novosti) – Ukraine’s state nuclear regulator on Thursday cancelled its own decree halting the transit of nuclear fuel via the country’s territory.

On January 28, the State Nuclear Regulatory Inspectorate of Ukraine closed the country’s territory for trains carrying all types of nuclear fuel.

Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin said earlier this week that Russia “has certain problems with transporting nuclear fuel to its partners in Eastern Europe via Ukraine.”

Ukraine’s state regulations explicitly ban transporting all types of nuclear fuel and waste “in case of security threats, such as military actions, armed conflicts, civil war, uprisings, political or civil turmoil, strikes, terrorist attacks” and other events “of unpredictable nature.”

Ukraine has seen months of violent anti-government protests, which eventually led to the ouster of President Viktor Yanukovych, notable for his pro-Russian stance. Deadly clashes between police and anti-government protestors in Kiev left nearly 100 dead.
