MOSCOW, March 25 (R-Sport) - The Russian Football Union on Tuesday approved an ambitious $6.9 billion plan to develop the game at the grass-roots level through the year 2020.
With the so-called "Development Strategy for football in the Russian Federation through 2020," the RFU is to build new covered pitches and stadiums, refurbish existing facilities and train more staff in an attempt to raise the pedigree of football in Russia, the 2018 World Cup host.
RFU president Nikolai Tolstykh said Tuesday that the plan requires a final sign-off by the body's regional members at a conference next month
