MOSCOW, March 27 (R-Sport) - The Russian football club controlled by Ramzan Kadyrov has signed a contract with an 18-year-old player who has brain cancer, the Chechen leader announced Thursday.
Grigory Simonyan has signed a fully-fledged playing contract with Terek Grozny, who play in the Russian Premier League, according to Kadyrov, the club's honorary president.
In a statement posted to the Instagram social network, Kadyrov said the club would pay for Simonyan's further treatment after a public donation drive raised $92,000.
"I couldn't just stand aside and I took this decision," Kadyrov wrote. "After Grisha's recovery - let the Almighty help with this - Grisha will make his debut for Terek."
"Terek have signed a very promising player," he added.
Simonyan's current condition was not clear, nor what stage his treatment has reached.
