MOSCOW, March 28 (R-Sport) - The manager of relegation-threatened FC Volga has resigned from the Russian Premier League side, an assistant told R-Sport on Friday.
Ukrainian coach Yuri Kalitvintsev, 45, has overseen three straight defeats in the games following the winter break, leaving Volga sharing the penultimate spot in the league with fellow minnows Ural Yekaterinburg.
His assistant Yuri Kovtun confirmed Kalitvintsev's departure to R-Sport.
Kalitvintsev, a former Ukraine international midfielder who was the country's caretaker coach in 2010-2011, joined Volga in January 2013 and led the club to a respectable 12th-placed finish last season.
Kalitvintsev was born in Volgograd but became a naturalized Ukrainian after playing for Dynamo Kiev, where he made 93 league appearances and scored 15 goals in the 1990s.
