KIEV, April 22 (RIA Novosti) – The city election commission of Ukraine’s capital Kiev will start registering candidates Wednesday for an upcoming mayoral election.
The registration will continue for eight days and would-be candidates must pay a registration fee of 53,000 hryvnia ($4,700).
Among those who have already signaled an intent to run are the head of the UDAR party Vitali Klitschko, Batkyvshchina (Fatherland) party lawmaker Lesya Orobets and incumbent mayor Vladimir Bondarenko.
The commission is to process all requests no later than May 1.
The Kiev mayor will be chosen on May 25. In the capital, the vote will coincide with a nationwide presidential election and a vote on the councilmembers in the Kiev City Council.
