MOSCOW, April 25 (RIA Novosti) – Ukrainian authorities claim to be strictly implementing the agreement reached in Geneva on April 17, while in fact they are choosing to ignore it, the Russian Foreign Ministry said Friday.
“The current parliament majority is demonstratively evading the consideration of this document [Geneva agreement], which visibly demonstrates the full desire of the deputies from the right coalition in a broad constructive dialogue of not searching for a way out of the deep political crisis in the country,” the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
“Once again we call on the Ukrainian side to actively, and not only in words, to demonstrate a sincere attempt to finding national agreement in Ukraine,” the ministry added.
“One of the key provisions of this document [Geneva agreement] became the request for immediate start of a wide national dialogue in the framework of constitutional reforms process that must be ‘inclusive, transparent and accountable’, involving all regions and political forces, which allows to take into account public comments and suggested amendments,” the statement said.
The ministry added that Ukraine’s Party of Regions has published a parliamentary project on a memorandum of national unity, which, according to Russia, contains constructive suggestions on stabilizing the situation in Ukraine. In particular, the Memorandum on National Unity contains a constitutional provision for guaranteeing Russian as a second national language.
Last week, top diplomats from Russia, Ukraine, the US and the EU met in Geneva and approved a statement calling on the sides in Ukraine to refrain from violence, extremism and provocations, disarm militants and launch a national dialogue on constitutional reform. Despite Kiev’s promises to lay down arms, attacks on pro-federalization protesters continue.
Russian President Vladimir Putin warned Kiev against continuing a special operation against pro-federalization supporters, which has already led to the death of five protesters.
