NABEREZHNYE CHELNY, Russia, April 25 (RIA Novosti) – Russia’s arms procurement program for 2016-2025 will focus on smart weaponry, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin said Friday.
“We have practically began forming the state arms procurement program for 2016-2025. This program will be linked to supplying smart weaponry to our armed forces,” Rogozin, who oversees the defense industry, said during a conference.
The deputy defense minister said earlier this month that the future of the Russian armed forces lies in developing high-precision weapons and boosting the capacity to conduct “no-contact warfare.”
He said Russia would invest 20 trillion rubles ($560 billion) in the coming years to modernize its army and naval fleet and 3 trillion rubles ($85 billion) to modernize Russian defense plants.
