MOSCOW, April 29 (RIA Novosti) – A new Washington Post-ABC News poll has revealed US President Barack Obama’s approval rating has dropped to its lowest point since he was inaugurated in 2009.
“Democrats face serious obstacles as they look to the November elections, with President Obama’s approval rating at a new low and a majority of voters saying they prefer a Congress in Republican hands to check the president’s agenda,” the Washington Post says.
The poll shows that only 41 percent of Americans approve of Obama’s policy, down from 46 percent in the first three months of the year.
Just 42 percent of respondents said they favored Obama’s economic policy, 37 percent approve of the measures he has taken to implement the Affordable Care Act and 34 percent back his position on the settlement of the Ukrainian crisis.
While the US leader is falling out of graces with Americans, his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin is enjoying a rise in his popularity.
An independent poll last month indicated that Putin’s approval rating stood at 80 percent, with a majority of Russians saying the country is heading in the right direction.
Public support for the Russian leader has increased by 8 percent since Putin delivered an address to parliament on Crimea, just before the predominantly Russian-speaking region rejoined Russia in March.
