MOSCOW, May 3 (RIA Novosti) – Some 5,000 people gathered outside the regional administration in downtown Donetsk, in eastern Ukraine, to mourn the victims of the Odessa tragedy, a spokesman for the Donetsk People’s Republic said Saturday.
“People have gathered, they are in a specific mood,” the spokesman said. People are rather calm now, he said adding that they could take more active steps later.
Ukraine saw Friday the bloodiest violence since the February overthrow of President Viktor Yanukovych, with dozens killed in clashes across the country.
The highest casualty toll was reported in the southern Ukrainian city of Odessa where 46 people died and over 200 were injured. A two-day national mourning has been announced in the country.
