KIEV, May 6 (RIA Novosti) – After clashes in Odessa last week where dozens of activists died, 48 people are still unaccounted for and several bodies remain unidentified in area morgues, Ukraine’s TSN agency reported Tuesday.

“Yesterday morning the city bid farewell to the dead after the bloody events on May 2. Six people were buried including a regional deputy, Vyacheslav Markin, who was often seen at ‘anti-Maidan’ rallies. Besides the 46 dead, today it was announced that there are still 48 individuals missing. There are a couple dozen bodies unidentified in the morgues,” according to the agency.

Last Friday, Ukraine saw the bloodiest violence since the February overthrow of President Viktor Yanukovych, with dozens killed in clashes across the country, with the highest casualty toll in Odessa.

According to official data, at least 40 "anti-Maidan" activists died in the fire in Odessa’s House of Trade Unions. The city’s Prosecutor’s Office said a total of 46 people died in the violence and almost 200 others sustained injuries.

The clashes in Odessa broke out between federalization activists on one side and fans of the Odessa and Kharkiv football teams on the other, joined by Euromaidan activists. Pro-Kiev radicals blockaded the anti-government protesters in the building, setting it on fire.

A member of the Odessa regional council told RIA Novosti Monday that the interim Ukrainian authorities are hiding from the public the true death toll in Friday’s tragedy in the House of Trade Unions in Odessa, which actually claimed 116 lives.

The Russian Foreign Ministry called the events a result of the “criminal irresponsibility of the Kiev leadership indulging insolent nationalist radicals, including Right Sector, who are staging a campaign of physical terror against supporters of federalization and real constitutional changes in Ukrainian society."
