KIEV, May 7 (RIA Novosti) – International flights are still suspended at the Donetsk airport in troubled southeastern Ukraine, an airport representative told RIA Novosti Wednesday.
“Only flights in Ukraine and [international] charter flights are carried out for now. For instance, a flight for Sharm el-Sheikh departed earlier this morning,” the airport’s information desk said.
Flights in and out of Donetsk were suspended for a brief period on Tuesday. Ukrainian aviation authorities gave no reason for the suspension.
According to a RIA Novosti correspondent in the Donetsk airport, three flights left for Kiev earlier today, with a plane from Turkey’s Antalya pending arrival. Some flights, including those from Moscow and Munich, have been cancelled.
Last week, Ukrainian authorities unilaterally banned Russian airlines from flying to Donetsk as well as Kharkiv, the country’s second-largest city. Russia condemned the move, but said it would refrain from taking symmetrical measures in response.
