Russia, China Make Progress on Gas Contract, More Work Expected Today – Putin’s Spokesman

Russia and China have made significant progress on the issue of gas prices within the upcoming contract, the work on the contract will be continued today, the president's press secretary Dmitry Peskov told reporters.

SHANGHAI, May 20 (RIA Novosti) - Russia and China have made significant progress on the issue of gas prices within the upcoming contract, the work on the contract will be continued today, the president's press secretary Dmitry Peskov told reporters.

"We’ve made considerable progress on gas [contract]. Although we still have questions to be clarified concerning the price. There are further discussions planned for today," Peskov said Tuesday.

Russian President Vladimir Putin arrived in China on Tuesday with an official visit. The Russian-Chinese talks are expected to result in the signing of a large package of documents, including bilateral, intergovernmental, inter-departmental and corporate agreements.

During the visit, Russia's energy giant Gazprom and the China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) are due to sign a deal for deliveries of 38 billion cubic meters of Russian natural gas over the next 30 years to power the booming Chinese economy.

Previously, Russian President Vladimir Putin stressed that the positions of the two countries on many international and regional issues coincide and praised the mutual desire to further enhance the partnership.
