SHANGHAI, May 21 (RIA Novosti) – Member countries of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA) undertook in a joint statement Wednesday not to support separatist movements and organizations on each other’s territories.
“We emphasise that separatism and violent extremism are threats to state sovereignty, unity, territorial integrity, security and stability,” the statement said.
“We will not support any separatist movements and entities on the territory of another Member State,” the member states said. “We also reiterate our resolve that our territories will not be used by any separatist movements and entities and we will not establish any kind of relations or communications with separatists.”
CICA has 26 full-fledged members, including Bangladesh and Qatar, whose membership was finalized on Wednesday. Seven states (Indonesia, Malaysia, the United States, Ukraine, Philippines, Sri-Lanka and Japan) and four international organizations (The United Nations, The Arab League, The Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe and the Parliamentary Assembly of Turkic Speaking countries) have observer status.
