The settlement of the situation in Thailand must be carried out through peaceful dialogue among all concerned parties, the Russian Foreign Ministry said Friday.

MOSCOW, May 23 (RIA Novosti) – The settlement of the situation in Thailand must be carried out through peaceful dialogue among all concerned parties, the Russian Foreign Ministry said Friday.

“We call for a settlement of the situation in Thailand through a peaceful dialogue including all concerned parties in order to restitute as soon as possible the political process in the constitutional field,” the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

On Thursday, Thailand’s Army Chief Prayut Chan-O-Cha announced a military coup in the country. During a televised address to the nation, Thai protest leader Suthep Thaugsuban was surrounded by Thai troops and taken out from the negotiation room.

At least 300 troops were dispatched to the building of the army’s central club, where talks between the Army and the leaders of political forces were held. The negotiations ended Wednesday without an agreement.

On Tuesday, Thailand's army declared martial law amid continuing mass anti-government protests, which have killed 28 people in recent months. It denied, however, that the move signaled a coup.

Earlier this month, the Constitutional Court of Thailand ordered caretaker Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra to step down from office over the unconstitutional sacking of the country’s head of national security in 2011.
