MOSCOW, 29 May (RIA Novosti) – Russia has ranked first among the world’s greatest sports countries, Aleksander Zhukov, the head of Russian Olympic Committee told journalists Thursday.
"Russia’s influence as a sports nation on the international arena has grown immensely. Russia came out on top of the international ratings based not only on the results of performances, but also on the level of competitions organization and many other factors. I think this is the achievement of Russian Olympic Committee as well,” Zhukov said at a press conference in Moscow.
Zhukov was re-elected as President of Russian Olympic Committee during the Committee’s meeting on Thursday.
At the meeting’s opening, he welcomed representatives of Crimea and Sevastopol back to the Olympic family.
