Russian President Vladimir Putin has met with his Kyrgyz counterpart, Almazbek Atambayev, to sketch out a roadmap for the Central Asian country's accession to the nascent Eurasian Economic Union (EAU), the Kremlin said Thursday.

ASTANA, May 29 (RIA Novosti) – Russian President Vladimir Putin has met with his Kyrgyz counterpart, Almazbek Atambayev, to sketch out a roadmap for the Central Asian country's accession to the nascent Eurasian Economic Union (EAU), the Kremlin said Thursday.

The meeting came on the sidelines of an ongoing summit in the Kazakh capital Astana, where leaders of Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan signed the Eurasian Economic Union Treaty, which will enter into force on January 1, 2015.

Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan earlier said his country was likely to sign the treaty before June 15.

The Eurasian Economic Union (EAU) was conceived as an EU-style bloc aimed at promoting integration and free trade between its three member states, Russia, Kazakhstan and Belarus, with more countries to follow.
