KIEV, June 3 (RIA Novosti) — Ukraine’s Special Forces are performing a "complex of dynamic actions" to force out independence supporters from the northern Donetsk, the nation's acting President Oleksandr Turchynov said Tuesday.
"I hope for us to get reports about specific results throughout the day," he told the Verkhovna Rada.
Turchynov said the Kiev-controlled special forces destroyed a self-defense group in an industrial neighborhood north of the Severodonetsk city in the Luhansk region Tuesday morning.
On Monday, Ukrainian air force carried out two air strikes on Luhansk - one targeted the city administration building and the other — a roadblock near the city.
According to most recent information from Luhansk independence supporters, at least eight people were killed and 28 were injured when the downtown administrative building came under attack.
The attacks came as part of a special operation launched by Ukraine’s government to crack down on independence supporters in mid-April.
Moscow has repeatedly condemned the new Kiev authorities for what it called «a punitive operation» and stressed the need for de-escalation of the Ukrainian crisis.
