KIEV, June 6 (RIA Novosti) - Local authorities in Slaviansk in the Donetsk region are asking for help with the evacuation of civilians in the eastern regions of Ukraine, some 350 people have already been evacuated, according to Ukraine's UNIAN news agency.
"Children and their parents have been evacuated from Slaviansk," the agency reported Friday, quoting Acting Deputy Head of the Donetsk Regional Administration Tamara Lukyanchuk.
Lukyanchuk said that 200 people have been safely delivered to the children's camp Solnechnyi Bereg in the Odessa region. Another 150 people will be sent to the children's camp in the Kharkiv region. Assistance was provided by the Vitaly Homutynnik Charity Fund. Homutynnik is also the head of Ukraine’s Parliamentary Committee on Taxation and Customs Policy.
“Upon his initiative, we are also preparing to send children from other cities of the Donetsk region. Right now we need support from all sides. Anyone who has the means to help, please contact the Donetsk regional administration with your initiatives," Lukyanchuk said.
Kiev’s interim government launched a special operation in mid-April against the independence supporters in the southeast of Ukraine. The operation has already led to numerous victims, including those among the civilian population, with no tangible results for the Kiev leadership. Moscow has repeatedly called this operation "punitive" and urged to begin the de-escalation process, but Kiev refused to do so even after the May 25 presidential elections.
On June 3, Russia circulated a draft UN Security Council resolution urging to stop the violence in the east of Ukraine and set up humanitarian corridors to allow the civilians to leave the territory of the military operation.
