GORKI, June 16 (RIA Novosti) — Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Deshchytsia behaved inadequately when he shouted offensive remarks directed against the Russian president near the Russian embassy, Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev said Monday.
"Nothing can surprise me after the Ukrainian foreign minister’s inadequate behavior," he said.
Deshchytsia was spotted chanting abusive slogans with the crowd after he was called to diffuse the conflict in front of the Russian embassy on Saturday.
Several hundred hooligans attacked the Russian diplomatic mission in the Ukrainian capital Kiev tearing the Russian flag from the embassy building, pulling cobblestones from the street to hurl at the mission and overturning several diplomatic cars. Rocks, eggs filled with brilliant green and smoke grenades pelted the facade.
Balaclava-wearing protesters threw a Molotov cocktail inside the compound, starting a minor fire which was swiftly extinguished. The police did nothing to stop the crowd, according to local media outlets.
Instead of confronting the protesters who vandalized the Russian embassy, Ukraine’s top diplomatic official appeared to side with them, saying he supported the protest. He later claimed this was a mere stunt he used to distract the crowd from laying siege to the embassy.
