TASHKENT, June 17 (RIA Novosti) – Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) hopes that the events in Ukraine will not harm relations between the Russian and US intelligence services.
"We have always cooperated, albeit less when certain events occur. We cooperate mainly in the fight against terrorism, and we have even made progress in the past decade," First Deputy Director of the FSB Sergei Smirnov said.
"We are working at the level of official representatives, we have an exchange program, it still works at the level of delegation visits as well, including visits by directors, so I hope that the cooperation will not be affected by the recent events [in Ukraine]," Smirnov said.
The deputy director also thanked his US colleagues for their cooperation ahead of the 2014 Olympic Games in Sochi. Smirnov said a collective effort by the FSB and its international counterparts thwarted a series of planned terrorist attacks on venues at the Olympics.
