MOSCOW, June 18 (RIA Novosti) - The current president of the Russian Hockey Federation, Vladislav Tretiak, has been reelected for a third term in the office.
During a conference in Moscow, elections were held to choose the head of the federation, in which 125 delegates voted for Tretiak to retain his position for a third term, and 11 were against.
Tretiak’s opponent in the election was Vyacheslav Fetisov. Tretiak has headed the Russian Hockey Federation since 2006.
2014 was a difficult year for Russian hockey. The year began with the Russian national team being eliminated in quarterfinals at the Sochi Olympics in February and a month later the head coach Zinetula Bilyaletdinov was replaced with Dynamo Moscow's Oleg Znarok, who went on winning the 2014 Ice Hockey World Championship in Minsk in May.
Russian President Putin said that one of the main problems of the Russian national team was lack of coordination between the players from different clubs, but by the time the world cup started, the issue had been resolved.
The president congratulated the new coach of the team, Oleg Znarok, on the accomplishment and expressed hope that the team will repeat this success in 2016, when the tournament will be held in Russia.
