KIEV, June 18 (RIA Novosti) - President Petro Poroshenko has suggested dismissing acting Foreign Minister Andrii Deshchytsia, the Ukrainian parliament said Wednesday.
The president has also nominated Ukraine's Ambassador to Germany Pavlo Klimkin to take over the post of foreign minister.
On Saturday, Deshchytsia shouted offensive remarks directed toward Russian President Vladimir Putin. The foreign minister was spotted chanting abusive slogans with the crowd after he was called in to diffuse the conflict in front of the Russian embassy in Kiev.
Several hundred hooligans attacked the Russian diplomatic mission, tearing the Russian flag from the embassy building, pulling cobblestones from the street to hurl at the embassy and overturning several diplomatic cars. Rocks, eggs filled with a brilliant green liquid and smoke grenades were pelted the façade by the crowd.
Balaclava-wearing protesters threw a Molotov cocktail inside the compound, starting a minor fire, which was swiftly extinguished. The police did nothing to stop the crowd, according to local media outlets.
Instead of confronting the protesters who vandalized the Russian embassy, Ukraine’s top diplomatic official appeared to side with them, saying he supported the protest. Deshchytsia later claimed this was a mere stunt he used to distract the crowd from laying siege to the embassy.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said his Ukrainian counterpart went beyond the limits of decency and Moscow has nothing to talk about with him.
