MOSCOW, June 20 (RIA Novosti) – Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov held a phone conversation with his newly appointed Ukrainian counterpart, Pavlo Klimkin, to discuss perspectives for future ties, as well as the situation in Ukraine in general, according to an official statement published Friday.
“In continuation to the phone conversation of Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko [on Thursday], Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has held a phone conversation with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin,” Russia’s Foreign Ministry said.
“The Russian side expressed hope that at this post Klimkin would contribute to constructive coopeation of Russian and Ukrainian foreign ministries,” the statement said.
On Thursday, Ukraine’s parliament relieved outspoken acting Foreign Minister Andrii Deshchytsia of his duties and approved Pavlo Klimkin, Ukraine’s ambassador to Germany, to the post of foreign minister.
Deshchytsia made headlines when he shouted obscenities directed against Russian President Vladimir Putin outside the Russian Embassy in Kiev when it was under attack by a mob of several hundred people last Saturday. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said his Ukrainian counterpart went beyond the limits of decency and Moscow has nothing to talk about with him.
