MOSCOW, June 27 (RIA Novosti) – Gazprom’s European consumers are currently receiving gas at levels usually associated with winter, the Russian energy giant’s CEO, Alexei Miller, said at the company’s annual general meeting (AGM) of shareholders Friday.
“The latest information shows that gas currently being received by our consumers in Europe during the summer is on a level that is characteristic for winter," Miller said.
The high volumes have led Gazprom to expect favorable figures on gas exports to Europe for 2014.
Last year, a reduction in gas extraction in European countries and the opening of Asia markets for liquefied natural gas projects contributed to an increase in Russian gas supplies to Europe.
“We have been able take advantage of these circumstances, as we have enough resources and transportation capacity,” Miller said.
Gazprom is the key gas supplier to the European market, meeting more than a quarter of the EU’s total gas needs. The Ukrainian gas transit system transports around 60 percent of Russia’s Europe-bound gas.
