GUIYANG, July 10 (RIA Novosti) — The number of conflicts in the world will grow if some countries continue the policy of imposing their own will, Kremlin Chief of Staff Sergei Ivanov said Thursday.
"I have said several times that the number of conflicts after the end of the ‘cold war' has not decreased, but just the opposite, has increased and will continue to increase. I don’t doubt this [will happen], if some countries continue their policies of imposing their own will and contemptuous attitude to the norms of international law," Ivanov told journalists in southwest China.
The Russian chief of staff also said Russia and China see no reason to establish a military alliance, as the cooperation between Moscow and Beijing, “…including in the defense sector, is not directed against anyone.”
Beijing has been cementing ties with Moscow amid strained relations between Russia and the EU. China refused to support the idea of unilateral economic sanctions suggested and implemented by the United States and the European Union against Moscow after Crimea reunited with Russia and the crisis in Ukraine escalated.
China has been a regular Russian ally on the world stage in recent years. Moscow and Beijing presented a united front on war-torn Syria, joining forces last year to oppose a proposal for military intervention made by the United States.
