Brazil is interested in Russian companies participating in railroad and port modernization, Brazilian Foreign Minister Luiz Alberto Figueiredo said in an interview with RIA Novosti Monday.
“Brazil’s government is very interested in engaging Russian companies in the infrastructure modernization program, especially concerning railroads and ports, one of the most competitive fields, Figueiredo stated.
According to the Brazilian Foreign Minister, trade volumes between the two counties almost tripled from 2003 to 2012. “Brazil and Russia continue to persistently strive for the volume of bilateral trade to go over the indicator of $10 billion,” Brazil’s foreign minister added.
“Obviously, opportunities for growth in trade and economic cooperation remain. We continue to work toward bringing Russian and Brazilian companies closer, improving conditions for conducting business for entrepreneurs of both countries,” the Minister stated.
Russian President Vladimir Putin is to meet his Brazilian counterpart Dilma Rousseff on July 14, in the country’s capital of Brasilia. According to Figueiredo, during President Putin’s visit an action plan for economic cooperation between the two counties promoting trade and investment will be signed.
Putin is now in the middle of his Latin American tour. The Russian president has already made stops in Cuba and Argentina and at the World Cup final in Rio de Janeiro. After a meeting in Brasilia, Putin is to attend a BRICS summit in the Brazilian city of Fortaleza.
The summit is to take place on July 15-16, and the main issues to be discussed are the prospects for economic integration, challenges to sustainable development, trade and the simplification of visa regimes.
