Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has announced the need for several changes in military tactics that would narrow the zone of special operations, according to the president’s press service.

KIEV, July 14 (RIA Novosti) - Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has announced the need for several changes in military tactics that would narrow the zone of special operations, according to the president’s press service.

“The president noted the need of several changes in tactics that would narrow the zone of conducting the anti-terrorist operation, strengthen the border [with Russia], and do everything to provide security to civilians,” the press service said Monday after the president held a meeting with the heads of the country’s law enforcement bodies.

Poroshenko also announced that the authorities plan on holding a meeting with the councils of Ukraine’s National Security and Defense Ministry.

Ukraine’s head of government stressed that, according to the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU), the active phase of special military operation is ongoing. The president also instructed the head of Ukrainian Defense Industry Company (UkrOboronProm) Roman Romanov to provide Ukraine’s Armed Forces with more weaponry in combat zones.

Poroshenko also noted that the localities coming under Ukrainian Army control should be immediately headed by civil authorities, able to take care of the population, restore the infrastructure and provide social payments.

Ukraine’s President also pointed out that the Army is responsible for establishing peace in the liberated cities.

“If you take the power, you should not only raise the flag, but protect the flag, the state and people,” Poroshenko said.

In mid-April Kiev has launched a special military operation to suppress the independence supporters in Luhansk and Donetsk regions, who refused to recognize the legitimacy of the coup-imposed government.

The fighting between Ukrainian Army and independence supporters in the southeast of Ukraine intensified dramatically in early July, when President Poroshenko decided not to extend a 10-day ceasefire in the region.

Russia has repeatedly condemned Kiev’s actions and urged to stop the bloodshed.
