Russia and India agree on the necessity to promote cooperation in politics, economy, international affairs, as well as military-technical cooperation, Russian President Vladimir Putin said Tuesday.

FORTALEZA (Brazil), July 16 (RIA Novosti) – Russia and India agree on the necessity to promote cooperation in politics, economy, international affairs, as well as military-technical cooperation, Russian President Vladimir Putin said Tuesday.

“We have already exchanged ideas concerning our bilateral relations. It is pleasant to note that Russia and India reached a consensus on this issue. This concerns our cooperation in the politics, in the world arena, economy, military-technical cooperation,” Putin said while opening the meeting with India’s new Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

“Our relations are of strategic nature solely, they rely on a solid basis of longstanding friendship and mutual respect of our nations,” the Russian leader said adding that he hoped that the two countries would continue efforts aimed at fostering further cooperation.

Modi in his turn spoke about his visit to the Indian city where the Vikramaditya aircraft carrier received from Russia is currently located.

“This carrier strengthens our Navy. This is a vivid example of our bilateral cooperation and this is also a major signal for other countries.

“Our government will seek to deepen the Russian –Indian relations. We are considering ways to expand our cooperation with Russia, to find new directions of our cooperation,” Modi stressed.

Putin and Modi met on the sidelines of the 6th BRICS summit that is taking place in Brazil on July 15-16.
