The solemn transfer of the first serial anti-submarine aircraft Il-38N to the Russian Navy took place in Zhukovsky.

The plane is designed for locating and destroying submarines while operating on its own or in conjunction with anti-submarine ships; for marine reconnaissance, search and rescue operations, and minelaying.

During the course of modernization, the aircraft was equipped with the new target search and track system Novella-P-38 which greatly expanded the scope of its tasks and its combat capability.
