BRAZILIA, July 17 (RIA Novosti) – The world’s top five emerging economies, BRICS, are seeking a unified approach to global affairs, Russian President Vladimir Putin said early Thursday.

The group of Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa also adopted a declaration that sets out the nations’ common goals on the international arena.

“We have adopted a declaration, although ‘declaration’ is too lightweight a word for it. It is a very important document that lays down our general line, including in the sphere of foreign relations,” Putin said at the end of his six-day South American tour.

“In this sense, one can say that BRICS is taking on a completely new quality,” he emphasized.

The Russian president also stressed that BRICS member states were working on mechanisms that would allow them to cooperate in the economic sphere.

On Tuesday, envoys from the five partner nations announced the creation of two much-anticipated $100 billion finance bodies to rival the Western-dominated World Bank and the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

“I can say with confidence that BRICS is about to start living life to the full,” Vladimir Putin concluded.

Politically, the BRICS countries also seem to be on the same page, with the leaders of the five member nations calling on conflicting sides in Ukraine to de-escalate the situation and look for a peaceful solution to the existing problems.
