ROSTOV-ON-DON, July 21 (RIA Novosti) - More than 35,000 refugees from Ukraine have been accommodated in Rostov Region since the beginning of the conflict in the east of the country, a regional Emergency Situations Ministry spokesperson said in a statement on Monday.
“In total, 35,147 people have been accommodated, including 12,084 children,” the statement said. Almost 28,000 out of them live with relatives or local families while the rest stay in temporary accommodation centers, including camps.
The flow of Ukrainian citizens to Russia, in particular to the border Rostov Region, started in June. About from 500 to 1,000 people are being accommodated in the region on a daily basis.
Some of the refugees are transferred to other Russian regions by car or by plane. In the past 24 hours more than 100 people were flown to Orenburg Region.
Earlier, the Russian Foreign Affairs Ministry’s Human Rights Commissioner, Konstantin Dolgov stated that OSCE representatives “expressed their deep concern with the humanitarian situation in the south-east of Ukraine in general, and with the intense flow of the refugees toward the Russian territory in particular."
Russia’s Federal Migration Service put the figures even higher. FMS head Konstantin Romodanovsky announced last week that nearly 490,000 people have fled Ukraine for Russia since the beginning of the crisis.
