UNITED NATIONS, July 21 (RIA Novosti) – The United Nations Security Council late on Sunday night in New York completed the text of its resolution concerning the Malaysia Airlines Boeing 777 that was shot down in eastern Ukraine last week and will vote on its adoption on Monday afternoon, UN diplomats said.
The UN Security Council will vote on the project at 3:00 p.m. local time (19:00 GMT).
“We’ll be voting at 3 p.m. tomorrow on the Australian text. There is one or two minor changes. And I hope everyone will vote tomorrow,” British UN Ambassador Mark Lyle Grant told journalists.
“It was a worthwhile session, let’s see what the result is going to be tomorrow. We’ve worked something out, let’s see how it works tomorrow,” Russian UN Ambassador Vitaly Churkin added.
Earlier, Churkin stated that Russia presented its own draft resolution of the crash of Malaysia Airlines jet with the request for an impartial international investigation.
The Malaysia Airlines plane with 298 people on board, including 15 crew members, crashed on July 17 near the town of Torez in Ukraine’s Donetsk Region.
Ukrainian government and militia have been trading blame for the alleged downing of the airliner, with independence supporters saying they lacked the technology to shoot down a target flying at altitude of 10 kilometers (6.2 miles).
Russia’s Defense Ministry said that at the time of the Boeing crash, Ukraine’s military had at least 27 Buk missile launchers capable of bringing down high-flying planes stationed in the Donetsk Region.
