30 years ago - July 25, 1984 - Svetlana Savitskaya became first woman to be in outside space, where she spent 3 hours 35 minutes.
Svetlana was engaged in air sports since school. In 1970 she became the absolute world champion in aerobatics. In 1980, Svetlana Savitskaya, was credited to the cosmonaut corps. From 19 to 27 August 1982 Svetlana Savitskaya made two space flights as a payload specialist of spacecraft "Soyuz T-7" / "Soyuz T-5" and as an onboard engineer of spacecraft "Soyuz T-12." On July 25 she became first woman to be in outside space.
Since 1993 Svetlana Savitskaya teaches at the Moscow Aviation Institute - MAI. She is Associate Professor, PhD. In 1989-1992 - USSR People's deputy.
Since 1995 she is Deputy of the State Duma of the second, third, fourth, fifth and sixth convocations.
For her great contribution to space exploration and advances in aviation Svetlana Savitskaya was twice awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union (1982, 1984).
In 2014 she was awarded the Order "For Services to the Fatherland" IV degree. Savitskaya was awarded two Orders of Lenin (1982, 1984), the Order of Honor (1976). Two small planets (asteroids) Named after her - № 4118 (Sveta) and №4303 (Savitskaya).
