MOSCOW, July 26 (RIA Novosti) - Ukrainian authorities have not yet responded to the pleas of Russian human rights activists to withdraw the children, who need emergency medical treatment and safety, from Ukraine’s southeastern conflict zone, the head of the nonprofit group Spravedlivaya Pomoshch (Fair Aid) Elizaveta Glinka, told RIA Novosti on Saturday.
“There are lists of sick children from Donetsk region. The Donetsk People’s Republic authorities have sent information about the children who need the surgeries and chemotherapy,” Glinka said.
She added that no official statements were made by the Ukrainian side.
The Chairman of Russia’s Presidential Human Rights Council (HRC) Mikhail Fedotov also told RIA Novosti that no one has responded to the urge of the Russian Human Rights defenders.
On Friday, Elizaveta Glinka alongside with Russia’s Human Rights Commissioner Ella Pamfilova have urged the international community and the warring sides of the Ukrainian conflict to assist in ensuring humanitarian corridors for the transfer of hundreds of ill children caught in the conflict to Russian hospitals.
On July 23, Russia’s children’s rights ombudsman Pavel Astakhov said that More than 200,000 refugees from southeastern Ukraine are in Russia, 28,700 of whom are children.
