PARIS, July 27 (RIA Novosti) – French authorities call for an immediate ceasefire in the Middle East, according to the statement made by Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius on Saturday.
“This morning the Israeli offensive in Gaza resumed. Supporting numerous international statements on this issue, France calls for immediate extension of the humanitarian pause, a real ceasefire and start of negotiations,” Fabius was quoted as saying in the communique.
“Whatever the reasons are nothing can justify continuation of the bloodshed, destruction and deaths,” French Foreign Minister stressed.
On Saturday, the Israeli Security Cabinet at the UN request extended till Sunday evening a humanitarian pause in Gaza which started early on Saturday. The ceasefire was later called off by Hamas, which refused the ceasefire.
Earlier Sunday, Israel resumed its military operation due to the ongoing rocket attacks by Palestinian militants. Hamas then agreed to a new 24-hour ceasefire with the Israeli army. The truce was to come into force at 2:00 p.m. local time (11:00 GMT).
