MOSCOW, July 27 (RIA Novosti) – Ukraine’s President Petro Poroshenko said on Sunday he will personally control the investigation into the murder of the Kremenchug mayor and attempt on the life of Lviv’s mayor, according to Poroshenko’s website.
“I would like to be personally informed about the course of the investigation,” Ukraine’s president was quoted as saying during a meeting with country’s General Prosecutor Vitaliy Yarema and deputy head of Ukraine’s Security Service Vitaliy Yalovenko.
Poroshenko urged the law enforcement officers to hurl all efforts into finding the perpetrators and the mastermind of these crimes.
The mayor of Kremenchug, Poltava region, Oleh Babaev was killed early on Saturday near his house. He was shot in the chest. Later that day fire was opened on the house of Lviv’s mayor Andrei Sadovy from a grenade launcher. A shell hit the garret on the third floor. Nobody was injured.
Ukrainian investigators opened a criminal case for intentional homicide over the murder of Babaev, while the attack on Sadoviy was qualified as a terrorist act.
