UNITED NATIONS, July 31 (RIA Novosti) – Russia expects that ministerial level meeting of Middle East Quartet will be held during the UN General Assembly session this September, Russian Ambassador to the United Nations Vitaly Churkin said Wednesday.
“We expect that in September on the sidelines of the political debate in the UN General Assembly, deep dialogue on this issue will be established, including extensive discussion of the prospects of the Middle East settlement in the framework of ministerial level meeting of the ‘quartet’,” Churkin said.
The diplomat added that Russia proposed to hold an informal “brainstorm” meeting in the UN Security Council as early as this August, inviting a top-ranking official from Washington, who is working on Middle East agenda, for the “detailed discussion of the current affairs and those problems that halt progress of the peaceful resolution.”
