Russia’s children’s rights ombudsman Pavel Astakhov has reiterated his call on Ukraine to open humanitarian corridors for civilians and stop shelling cities, amid reports that children have been injured in a mine blast in Donetsk Region.

MOSCOW, July 30 (RIA Novosti) – Russia’s children’s rights ombudsman Pavel Astakhov has reiterated his call on Ukraine to open humanitarian corridors for civilians and stop shelling cities, amid reports that children have been injured in a mine blast in Donetsk Region.

“The Kiev regime keeps on killing its own people and children. While keeping children and civilians hostage, they regularly open their humanitarian corridor to withdraw their troops from militia attacks through the Russian territory. That’s inhumanely cynical! Save the innocent children,” Astakhov wrote in his Instagram account Wednesday.

Astakhov added that according to the statement by Anton Heraschenko, an adviser to the Ukrainian interior minister, nine children were injured in a mine explosion in Artemovsky district, in Donetsk Region, Tuesday and all of them hospitalized with serious injuries.

Local officials said seven people, including three children, were injured in the mine blast in the area. All of them remain in serious condition.

Kiev has been carrying out a military operation in eastern Ukraine since mid-April. The cities of Donetsk, Luhansk and Horlivka are now being shelled routinely. Moscow has repeatedly called on Ukraine to stop the violence that has already caused numerous deaths from both sides of the conflict.
