MOSCOW, July 30 (RIA Novosti) – The United States will experience “significant loss” due to its anti-Russian sanctions, used by Washington as revenge against Moscow’s independent policies, the Russian Foreign Ministry said Wednesday.
“It looks like the US pressure of sanctions, which have now become sectorial, is intended for one thing only – to take revenge for our independent policy, which is not convenient for Washington. We also note the evident elements of dirty trade and economic competition in the US actions,” the ministry said in a statement.
“Such a destructive and short-sighted policy will cause significant loss for Washington,” the statement reads.
The new round of US sanctions imposed against Russia will only further worsen relations between Washington and Moscow, the ministry said.
“Washington will gain nothing from such decisions except further complication of Russian-US relations and the creation of an unfavorable atmosphere in international affairs, where the cooperation between our countries often plays a key role,” the statement reads.
The United States continues to support Kiev’s military operation against independence forces in eastern Ukraine and has made unfounded accusations against Russia at the same time, Moscow said.
“In its pretentious, prosecutorial manner, the White House continues to cover up the bloody operation by the Kiev military who, in violation of international laws, have sunk to launching missile strikes on peaceful cities, [and at the same time the US continues] to put forward groundless accusations against us,” the Russian ministry said.
“In fact, by pretending to be consistent in its behavior, the US administration is only trying to escape responsibility for the tragic development of the events in Ukraine,” the Russian Foreign Ministry stressed.
On Tuesday, the United States as well as the European Union announced new rounds of sanctions against Russia, once again accusing Moscow of supporting militia forces in eastern Ukraine.
Washington introduced sanctions on three more Russian banks, namely VTB, the country's second-largest bank, the Bank of Moscow and Russian Agricultural Bank, as well as state-owned United Shipbuilding Corporation.
Additionally, US President Barack Obama said the US would also block the exports of specific goods and technologies to the Russian energy sector, expanding sanctions to more banks and suspending credit that encourages exports to Russia.
Russia has repeatedly denied accusations that it is supplying the eastern Ukrainian militias with arms and called the "language of sanctions" counterproductive.
