Eastern Ukrainian militia forces have found fragments of a ballistic missile warhead in Luhansk Region, the military governor of the city of Luhansk, Serhiy Grachev, said.

MOSCOW, July 30 (RIA Novosti) – Eastern Ukrainian militia forces  have presumably found a ballistic missile warhead in Luhansk Region, according to the military governor of the city of Luhansk, Serhiy Grachev.

“Today, I visited the site where the warhead was found. It hasn’t been destroyed completely, as only its submunitions detonated and the warhead itself remained intact,” Grachev said when asked if the Ukrainian Army has used ballistic missiles against independence forces.

The object was found near the Verhunka railway station in Ukraine’s eastern region of Luhansk, according to the militia.

“It [the warhead] is big, a little bit shorter than I am and my height is 1.88 meters [6.2 feet],” Grachev said.

On Tuesday, citing US officials CNN reported that Ukraine’s government troops used short-range ballistic missiles against independence supporters in the country’s east. The weapons have a range of about 50 miles and pack warheads of up to 1,000 pounds. If the reports are accurate, these are “the most deadly missiles to date used in the conflict,” CNN said.

The Russian Foreign Ministry said Tuesday the Kiev government intensified military action against its own people after getting support from Western countries.

Moscow has described the ongoing military action as a punitive operation and has repeatedly called on Kiev to put an immediate end to the bloodshed.
