GAZA, August 1 (RIA Novosti) – Russian diplomats have evacuated more than 150 Russians and foreigners to Egypt from the Gaza Strip where Israel has been holding military operations for almost a month, witnesses told RIA Novosti Thursday.
The group included 69 Russians, six natives from Crimea who have not yet received their Russian passports, 37 Ukrainians, 17 Kazakhs, five Moldovans, four Belarusians, three Germans and five Palestinians. The group is mostly women and children, she added.
This is the second evacuation organized by Russian diplomats. The first group consisting of over 70 people, mostly Russian and Ukrainian citizens, was taken to Egypt two weeks ago.
Some 500 Russians are believed to currently live in the Gaza Strip.
At least 1,032 Palestinians have been killed in Israel’s Operation Protective Edge and ground invasion into the Gaza Strip, including 219 children and 117 women, a nongovernmental organization based in the Gaza Strip, Al Mezan Centre for Human Rights, said earlier this week.
