MOSCOW/ DUBAI, August 1 (RIA Novosti) – The King of Saudi Arabia Abdullah Bin Abdulaziz accused Israel of committing war crimes and lashed out at the international community over its reluctance to settle the Gaza conflict, the monarch stressed in a televised speech read out on his behalf Friday.
“We see the blood of our brothers in the Palestinian Authority shed during mass massacres, which have spared nobody. All this is happening right before the international community with all its organizations, including human rights ones. They watch silently what is happening in the region as if it is not their concern. Silence has no justification,” the king stressed.
Abdullah said that Israel’s actions in Gaza were war crimes against humanity.
The king once again stressed the need to foster cooperation to fight international terrorism, which he said could split the Arab and Muslim world.
According to Abdullah, the events unfolding in the Middle Eastern region and the inaction of the international community “will lead to a generation, which will grow up knowing nothing but violence, in confrontation of civilizations and not in their dialogue.”
He also slammed militants from Muslim organizations who he said distorted the essence of the religion.
Israel launched its Operation Protective Edge in early July in an attempt to stop rocket fire from Gaza. On July 17, the Israeli Army switched to a ground offensive largely aimed at locating and destroying tunnels created by Palestinian rebels under the border.
The ongoing conflict has already claimed the lives of more than 1,400 Palestinians and nearly 60 Israelis becoming the bloodiest confrontation during Hamas’ 7-year rule in the Gaza Strip.
